Painting leather furniture is possible but it s a bit trickier than painting more common upholstery or other items with simple fabric paint. To help the paint adhere well to the leather mix up a primer of equal parts acrylic paint one that s formulated for leather and plain water in a plastic bucket. I didn t want one big thick gloppy layer that might peel and with the thinner coats you can really play with building up the opacity or letting small bits of the black leather show through. Picking one made for leather is likely your best bet but you have a few other options.

Start off by picking the kind of paint you want to use.
